How Important is Auto Insurance?

Ahhh the best time of the month. Time to pay bills. No one likes paying bills. Even worse, No one likes to pay the auto insurance bill. I wonder how many people would actually keep their insurance if it wasn't a legality issue. Answer, Much fewer than the ones now!

Did you know your auto insurance acts like a health insurance policy in Michigan? If you are injured in a car accident, your auto insurance company will usually pay the bulk of your bills(Medicare, Medicaid and County health plans do not pay bills related to auto accidents). Did you also know that Michigan is one of the few states that offer unlimited medical related to an auto accident? In lament terms, if you can't cut your grass because you were severly injured during an auto accident, your insurance company will pay the lawncare man for the rest of your life!! Now I know, everyone who has only liability insurance or sometimes called PLPD think they are paying for nothing, but that can't be any farther from the truth! it is important to keep auto insurance regardless of your personal or financial status. Hope you enjoy!

Give Me The Cheapest Policy Possible!

Give me the cheapest auto policy available. Really? I wish I never heard this comment before in my 5 years as an insurance agent. But sadly enough, I do. How is the economy doing? How about your economy? Are you making tons of money at your job?

Ok, So the answers to these questions may have not been so good. Time to cut back on the bills. Save money on your auto insurance? Ok, Not a bad idea, but be very careful what you do. Here's 4 suggestions that may help you out:

1. Raising your deductibles is not a bad idea, but don't go too high and in the event you can't afford the deductible.
2. Is your car getting older and older by the year? Lots of miles driving back and forth to work? Take the full coverage off, and switch to just PLPLD(Personal Liability and Property Damage).
3. DO NOT lower your liability limits to save a few bucks a month. These may seem like pointless numbers to you, but they are very important to your auto policy and your personal financial well being. Call your local agent and ask him/her to explain what they mean to you , without boring you to death hopefully.
4. Ask your agent if there are any other available discounts that you may be qualified for. Simple right? Most people don't even take this simple step. Maybe you are eligible for a good student discount or pay your policy in full discount.

Hopefully, these tips will help you in the future. But please do not buy cheap insurance just to "get by". It will cost you a lot more in the long run.
